Winthrop

Hi
I am going to be camping at Winthrop next weekend to do the Cycle de Vine ride in Chelan on Saturday. We are also looking at doing a ride in the Winthrop area on Sunday. Any suggestions? We are riding with novices so low traffic or back roads and not to many hills, so Hwy 20 is probably out. Thanks in advance for any tips

David

Go to the bike shop just as you get into town on Highwya 20, they have maps.

Chewuch loop would be a good novice low traffic ride. Lots of options including side FS road that are paved with hills.

Sun Mountain is good and steep.

More adventure wanted then you could go to either Loop Loop Pass or Highwya 20 up to Washington Pass.

I was in Winthrop last year for the Native Planet Classic (on a Saturday) and on Sunday morning I wanted an easy ride to recover from the prior day. I did the Chewuch Loop mentioned above -- it was really nice, really low traffic. A few rolling hills so if you want a workout you can go at it, but if you want to take it easy you can.

What a great area to ride in the scenerey is just friggin awesome and the locals were very cool to us. We ended up doing the Winthrop/Twisp and Chewuch Loop rides this trip. Next year my brother and I are going to set aside one day for ourselves and are thinking of doing the Winthrop to 30 mile camp and back. Methow Cycle is the place great owners a good ride adivice.

Stellar riding. Did the Winthrop to Washington/Rainy Passes ride this past weekend. We we're going to ride to Loup Loup Pass on Monday but bugs chased us out of our campground after a couple of nights. Wet spring has made the mosquitoes awful this year. We'll be back before the summer is out to try something else. Also managed to catch some nice trout for the second time this year over there.
