Mt. Adams Country Bike Tours
Anyone done this ride?
Curious what your experience was.
Saw some reports saying the support was a little underwhelming.
Thanks

Do you have a map of the route?

I did it last year and found it to be a really nice ride with a lot of nice vistas. The ride was well/adequately organized and supported and the admission price was reasonable. If work cooperates I am going to do it again this year.

Thanks for the map! What time of year would something like this be a good solo ride?

I'm not sure. The forest loop can take a while to melt out and I assume the USFS doesn't plow roads like that. I think you can go the the Gifford Pinchot FS website and either get road conditions or a number you can call to check. Once it melts out it is a matter of your temp preference. It can get hot there, I guess in 2008 it was pushing 100F mid-day at the end of June. Right now and probably Sept would be ideal and maybe even into Oct.
Maybe a local or someone from Portland can chime in. I did a backpack near there a few years ago and climbed Adams on another trip. It is really pretty but a long haul from Seattle. They have some nice Huckleberries in the late summer.

Spot on. We just did the ride this past Saturday. Some of the best, low traffic roads I have ever ridden. The support was good and enthusiastic and the locals didn't seem to mind the bicyclists clogging their roads for the day. They had a full lunch stop with choice of sandwichwes and then a feed afterwards.
Only negative was the June weather which kept the mountain hidden most of the day and unleashed a torrent for a few minutes when we were descending form the forest loop. It turned the road into a river very quickly but then it stopped and was dry for the rest of the ride.
I would do this ride again. Spent two nights in Hood River which was fun, couldn't find a room any closer.
