Portland OR Wheel shop to consider!

For those of you in Oregon or Vancouver WA, I stumbled onto a wheel shop called "Sugar wheel works" located in N Portland off of Williams just past the rose quarter. I broke a spoke and nobody seems to stock CX ray Sapim spokes. Velo cult off of sandy Blvd knew that Jude (owner of Sugar) stocked them and recommended i go there. I have NEVER heard of sugar wheel works and didn't know what to expect, but i needed a spoke. So I went and WOW is all I can say. Jude took 30 minutes talking to me, educating me and really taking her time to help me. We are going to sit down at the end of this week and come up with some custom wheel ideas. My wheel knowledge was/is minimal and what I thought was right definitely was not. She helped me break through some of my own barriers (wanting certain wheelsets for reasons that were not beneficial or true for that matter). I'm going to do a demo program with her where she is going to set me up with several different sets over the course of 3 or 4 months so i can experience first hand the difference between wheel set up's i.e better hubs, rim weights, spoke count, hub weight...etc.

If you need any wheel work done I HIGHLY recommend giving her a visit!

Second this. Jude is the best!! I decided in 2011 to begin building my own wheels. After frustrating visits to various other outlets trying to gain some advice about components, etc., I found Jude through a friend. She spent 30 minutes with me explaining the various options and steered me in a direction totally different from where I was headed. I ended up building my own set of wheels, and she inspected them twice for me to make sure I was on the right track. They turned out great, and being a Clydesdale wheels are a challenge for me. Following that, she's built two additional sets for me for my road bikes, and I'm about to order another set for my cross bike.

I like to just drop in and visit with her occasionally to buy some tires or other parts from her, because I always learn something from her and she's always so damn pleasant to talk to.

The wheels she built for my Cycle Oregon trip last year were bombproof.

She was featured in a "how to" blurb in Bicycling Magazine a while ago.
