Many people know that modern day slavery exists, but they think that it's something that happens a world away from us here in the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, that's not true and the Seattle area is regularly flagged as not only one of the hotbeds for US human trafficking, but it regularly makes the global lists. This has a lot to do with our proximity to Asia, our busy ports and airport, the proportionately large number of hotel rooms, and the number of farms and agriculture operations so close to a major urban center. Another sad aspect to these crimes is that so few of them ever get reported so what we do know is only the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
We would like to invite you to help us spread awareness of this issue and raise funds for local human trafficking charities on March 17th. There is a growing support network here that could really use some extra funding. Please visit our web site to register and/or donate, and we'd also appreciate it if you could spread the word to others in the area.
