WA bike-law sheet for bike bag

1 Attachment(s)
After hearing various stories of incidents where people (including police) didn't know the law as relates to bicycles, I decided to make up a little sheet of laws I felt could be useful to have at my fingertips. I printed it up, "laminated" it with clear packing tape, and put copies in my various bike bags. I've attached it here in case anybody else might find it useful. If you think I left out something, hate my formatting, or anything else, you're free to change it :)

I'm not sure how it is done today but back when I was in law enforcement every officer carried a copy of "select titles" which included the criminal code and traffic code. I would think if you just have the numbers of the code that should be good enough as an officer can just look them up during a stop. It is not like he will just take your word for what it it says even if you have it printed out. That said it is good to know exactly what the law is.

Thank you for this post. It's a good refinement, what the officer wrote above, but on the other hand, being able to quote the law even if you don't have the number will be helpful. Thank you for this effort, I've printed some for my bikes.

Much appreciated, I'll be putting a copy in all of my bike bags as well, great stuff. :)

My ride involves a lot of red lights that are vehicle activated so I carry a smaller version of laws which includes this one for our area which I'm sure most of the cops don't know about.

[346.37(1)(c)4] allows a bicyclist facing a red signal at an intersection, after stopping as required, for not less than 45 seconds, to proceed cautiously through the intersection before the signal turns green if no other vehicles are present at the intersection to actuate the signal and the operator believes the signal is vehicle actuated. The bicyclist shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicular traffic when proceeding through the green signal at the intersection.
