Nehalem / Manzanita OR Road Rides

Thinking about heading to Newhalem State Park this weekend and bringing road bikes.

Anybody done any riding around there that they would recommend? Would prefer to stay off 101 and roads with light traffic. Hills are a bonus.

I've ridden south out of Oceanside and like that stretch and would use that as a fallback but if we can leave from the park and not drive to that would be ideal.

Alternatively there are Mtn Bike rentals in Cannon Beach. Any nice 3-4 trail rides that would be good for novices?

Thanks

MTB is a lot more fun than 101--Onion Peaks right behind Cannon Beach has many great fire roads with great views.

Check Mike's Bike in Cannon Beach, he has local MTB trail maps.

Thanks. Didn't make it down this weekend, campgrounds were all booked and then the weather went to crap.

Would like to go down there and try some of the local trails though.

For road riding, I usually stay in Seaside and do a ride up Hwy 26 to Hwy 53, which takes me south thru the hills to the Nehalem area. I then take 101 back to Seaside, with a slight detour along the road that runs past Tolovana and Cannon Beach. Nice view of Haystack Rock along this section, and lots of nice cafes in Cannon Beach, the most touristy of the towns along the way.

If you're starting in Nehalem, you're within range of a ride to Tillamook, and then taking the loop ride past Cape Meares.

Lots of quiet roads in that area once you get off 101.
