Riding around Bend, OR (Sunriver, Mt. Bachelor)

Has anyone taken Highway 97 southbound from Bend to Sunriver? From what I’ve gathered, it can get dicey due to traffic volume/speed, but it’s the most direct route from Bend down to Sunriver. Looks like the shoulder is wide enough.

Here’s the route l plan on attempting this Friday: https://goo.gl/maps/TXBMe

I’d appreciate any suggested alternatives or tips regarding the route in general. Thanks in advance!

Get yourself a mountain bike and ride the Deschutes River trail. Really nice ride.

I've done the ride on 97 to SR, it's OK, just be sure and take the first Sun River exit and ride through the development. There is lots of traffic and noise from cars and trucks, but it is not that far, and really no alternative, so.... Your ride as mapped is beautiful, after you get to Sun River you'll forget all about the highway, enjoy the ride, good pick!!!

Thanks for the suggestions! I ended up cutting the Bend portion of the ride off by taking Edison Ice Cave road back to Sunriver. Here's the route I ended with: https://goo.gl/maps/n46EG

It was beautiful! While my sample size is not quite large yet, this was without a doubt the most beautiful ride I've been on.
