Moab Skinny Tire Festival?

This four day road bike event is held every year in early March in the beautiful Canyonlands of southern Utah. By March I'm a bit tired of riding in fog, rain, wet roads and cloudy days, Moab offers a break to sunny desert climates. The rides are 50 - 60 miles and start from town each day, some hills, some flats, up the Colorado River and down the river too. Check it out if you are looking for a winter get away with your bike. It's an easy drive from the PNW, and worth it!

Aw, come on. By March it's hardly foggy at all.:D

I agree that it is nice to get away and ride in some actual sunshine, as opposed to the liquid version, and even bare some skin.

I spent a few days in Moab with the family a few years ago. It was a great town, but it was a shame I couldn't rent a bike. All the shops were just out. I wanted to do one of the trails.

I have in-laws in Grand Junction, CO and really enjoy the road rides in the region, but I have never ventured as far as Moab.

My wife and I are booked! Thanks for the tip!

I had originally scheduled a February trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, but then I checked the airline prices. Holy cow, I should have bought last summer when they were around $450. Now they are $700+! I'll drive the VW turbo-diesel to UT instead!

I'd love to meet you while I'm there, maybe ride together one day. There are lots of lodging options, search for deals for that time. I got a room in a nice (but not too nice) place in downtown for $50/night. The Aarchway always offered $99 rooms for STF riders, that's a good rate for that place, also the host for all events. We can exchange contact info later if you'd like via PM. I know a VERY nice group of tandem couples if you are bringing yours, let me know if you'd like contact info, you'd like these folks.

We'll be riding singles. I'm doing the rides on my fixie. I heard the scenery is great, plus I'll get some idea of the terrain for Hoodoo later in the year (although the Hoodoo 500 course is many mountains away). We're staying at a motel that I booked thru hotwire; it's about a mile from the host hotel. I usually don't book the host hotel, too expensive, although $99/night is not bad at all.

We'll probably set off from Mt. Vernon (where we keep a vacation home) on Thursday night & just drive straight thru, arriving Friday afternoon in time for the Friday dinner.

I'm planning a road bike trip next summer 2015 with my son who will then be 13 (coming of age/man kind of thing). Any suggestions on lodging/trails? I'd like to do 40ish miles/day.
