    Portland bike stores

I'll be in Portland for a day next week, staying near the Expo Center. There's nothing I need, but I love drooling over the goods in bike stores, accessories rather than bikes, and I hear Portland has more bike stores per person than just about anywhere else on the planet. You lucky people.

Any must-see stores that I can access from the Expo Center without a car? It seems to be pretty close for transit, which would be a fine way to travel.

Any tips on transit? Day pass?

    Many thanks.

Shifty, I think you may be confusing the Expo Center with the Convention Center, which are two different things and in two very different locations. The Expo Center is in the far north part of town, right on the Columbia River and next to I-5.

But thankfully the Expo Center is on the end of the Yellow Line MAX light rail, so you can get into Portland. (There's not much around the Convention Center itself.) So you can get to Veloce, River City, and Velo Cult.

The closest bike shop to the Expo Center would be Kenton Cycle Repair, just off the Kenton MAX stop (2 stops from Expo Center). Kenton Cycle Repair

Boudicca, get yourself a day pass ($5, can purchase at MAX station), and use trimet.org to guide yourself around town by transit. Google maps should also work for that too.

    Sounds fun.

And thanks for the day pass trip. Clearly the way to go.

If you want fancy bikes/stuff, make sure to check out West End on sw 11th and Stark(if you take the yellow line into downtown, it's just a short walk).
