Spoiler Alert -- question re yellow jersey
Martin finished the stage with the overall time, so he earned tomorrow's yellow jersey. However, he has announced that he is abandoning. Does Froome get the yellow jersey tomorrow, or does it go unworn?

Yes, but the sponsors of the yellow jersey paid money for it and they want to see their name on the yellow jersey during the race on TV and photos and highlights... they can put considerable pressure on the default owner to wear it anyway. It's kind of considered good sportsmanship to claim you don't deserve it yet... but it generally doesn't take too much arm twisting to change your mind. I predict Froomie will put it on for Stage 7.

Granted it is from Wikipedia, but the following discussion suggests that Froome would have declined in the good-old-days, but perhaps the 2005 precedent is most realistic in light of pressure from modern sponsors:
No riders in yellow
Riders who became race leader through the misfortune of others have ridden next day without the yellow jersey.[13]
In 1950, Ferdi Kubler of Switzerland rode in his national jersey rather than yellow when the race leader, Fiorenzo Magni abandoned the race along with the Italian team in protest at threats said to have been made by spectators.
Eddy Merckx declined the jersey in 1971 after its previous wearer, Luis Ocaña, crashed on the col de Mente in the Pyrenees.
The Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk did not wear the yellow jersey that passed to him in 1980 when his rival, Bernard Hinault retired with a knee injury.
In 1991, Greg LeMond rode without the jersey after a crash eliminated Rolf Sørensen of Denmark.
In 2005, Lance Armstrong refused to start in the yellow jersey after the previous owner, David Zabriskie, was eliminated by a crash, but put it on after the neutral zone on request of the race organizers.[16]

Just in case anyone still cares. . .
The 'official' explanation as per the talking heads on NBCSN: Marten was the 'official' yellow jersey after stage 6 since he finished the stage. Froome didn't take over the yellow until the official start of stage and Marten DNS. I suppose Froome could have done a quick change into yellow after stage 7 started?
