Too bad to hear this. I do understand that testicular cancer is not that rare, and Basso is in a prime age group to get it. That said, you have to wonder whether the doping, particularly steroids, played a role in this.

I also wish Basso the best of luck. Steroids are really some powerful stuff. I was watching a Charlie Rose show on PBS some days ago (this one's topic was gender identification/sex change and he had some brilliant researchers on talking about their different research and protocols), and I was stunned to see what testosterone and estrogen can do to the human body and physiology at above natural dosages. I came away from watching it feeling that anything that are capable of such drastic changes can really mess up your physiology if things don't go well or are abused.

I also see a bodybuilder at my local gym who I suspect is on steroids. The weird thing is that his facial features are just kinda blunt, no sharpness or definition to his face. Steroids are powerful stuff, especially when abused.

Tough to say. Given the size of the peloton and the statistics for that type of cancer I would think you'd see alot more of it if guys using corticosteroids were getting it at that much higher of a rate.

Ha without going into all the rest, Lance wasn't 38 at the time.
