Froome looked beatable today. This is going to be a great race this year.
Nibali doesn't want it, Contador is hurting, Porte and Teejay have to fight it out with each other, and there are young strong guys coming up. Quintana is the only one we haven't really seen falter yet and he has a strong team this year.

I'm not sure it would matter whether Nibali wanted it or not. He had to dig really deep to win the Giro. I can't see a way he could have won the Tour, Olympics or no Olympics.

Not to mention that Nibali said he wasn't going for the podium in the TdF but he was riding in support of Aru.

Can't say I noticed that, but my stream was of poor quality. What I did notice is that Sky had, what, five riders left in the end? They are going to be really hard to beat, that is one strong team.

So GVA with his 5:and change lead, how does that affect the rest of the tour? What if BMC tells him to stick with the GC group and help Porte/TVG for the rest of the tour? Any chance he could win sort of by default just by hanging with the GC group? All he has to do is stick close and not lose too much. It might end up being the best tour we have seen in years!

McLay was mentioned on the Official Tour live site as one to watch today. Speaking of those that are right there, Brian Coquard always seems to be there racing hard in the sprints. Can anyone tell me about those Converse looking DMT shoes he is wearing. They look like the DMT (P1), but don't seem to have the lace covers. Sweet looking shoes!

I noticed those shoes a few stages ago when he got second. They look sweet, but I couldn't find them online. They're definitely DMTs.

he'll be more of a domestique for porte/tvg. helluva rider tho. those medium mountain stages and transitional
stages suit his style more in challenging for stage victories.
the avoidance of big crashes here in the first week keeps so many options open. been a great tour so far.
gc fireworks will be starting soon. time to be or not to be.

Even more impressive when you consider Coquard is listed at 5'6'' and 127 lbs while Kittel is 6'2"" and 189 lbs. I'd like to see their respective power numbers from the sprint in stage 4.

Paul and Phil were talking about how Cavendish had worked hard specifically on speed and power. Anyone know if he gained weight/muscle, leaned out and lost, or stayed about the same. Like Coquard, he is small for a sprinter.

Not.
As was said in a different thread, he's not a GC contender because he's not going to be able to keep on their wheels during the big climbs. If the GC had seen him as that kind of threat, they wouldn't have let him get away in the first place. And if he were to manage to stick close with the GC group in the mountains and seem to be a threat, the strong GC riders would attack and put that time in to him.
But bully for him for winning from the breakaway - he rode a fine stage.

Any opinions out there about the dynamics right now on the BMC squad? Assuming GVA holds on to yellow for a couple stages more, what's their strategy for the GC? With Porte having lost that time, will he now ride as a superdomestique for Teejay? Or will the BMC team ride to support an attack by Porte to make up the time on an upcoming stage?

If you can find it, Bob Roll and the other former rider/commentators had a good interview with the BMC team director after GVA's stage win. It was a really good interview.

How about the dynamics of the Tinkoff team? Last night I was reading up on their situation. Not good at all.

Here's some good quotes from the TDF live feed. There is a lot going on out there:
Nicolas Portal: "Nibali makes us worried"
Talking to Francetelevisions, Team Sky's sport director Nicolas Portal explained why his team is pulling the peloton: “We aren't worried by the yellow jersey [Greg Van Avermaet]”, he said. “We're more worried because of Vincenzo Nibali being at the front. We don't want him to bounce back on GC. Everyone has seen at the Giro that he managed to regain a lot of time at the end. We don't know what the situation will be in two or three days. It could cost us a lot of energy if he was going to be high in the overall. I guess Movistar thinks the same but BMC is playing a dangerous game. OK, they've Van Avermaet at the front but they also have Richie [Porte] and Tejay van Garderen for GC and they might regret later what they're doing now if Nibali took their place on the final podium. The col d'Aspin can be complicated for the whole peloton. They'll be attacks in the last five or six kilometers. The downhill is tricky and it might rain at the end of the race. It's a tense situation.”
Nibali is currently 14.06 down on race leader Van Avermaet.
José Luis Arrieta: "We also don't want Van Avermaet too much ahead"
Also talking to Francetelevisions, Movistar's José Luis Arrieta added to Portal's comment: “The same goes for us. We don't want to give too much time to Nibali. But there's also the leader [Greg Van Avermaet]. If he's too much ahead on GC, it becomes demanding to make it up for the time lost. So we prefer to maintain a manageable distance to them.”
