I feel like he spent everything to get a stage win (he knows he will never make the podium) and still couldn't keep up with the youngsters. I dearly loved watching him go today, though.
Contador is past his prime. Back in the days of his duels with Schleck, I didn't favor him, but as the years go by I appreciate his tenacity and desire. Alberto tiene corazon.

Fishy TBH, considering he was being dropped on the mountains the day before.

I think he simple realized he was totally out of the GC, so he picked a stage he could win. Stage 13 was short but had three Cat 1 climbs .... perfect for a good climber who was tired. If he could get int he break, he had a chance .... and no one cared, at that point, if he got into the break.

Stage 14: No way Sky would have let their GC contender lose time in the way that Astana allowed Aru to lose time at the end of this stage.

The more I think about it the more I think that was deliberate.

Astana is down to seven, tired, beat-up riders .... they didn't want the yellow to begin with. We all saw their faces when they road in after Stage 13.

I think Aru's best bet is to stay as close as possible and gamble on a late attack in a late stage ... and gamble on the Time Trial.

No way Astana could protect the jersey.

If it wasn't deliberate, it sure was a blessing in disguise. Astana doesn't have the man power; there was absolutely no way they could take control for a week and put enough time into Froome for Aru to have a chance in the TT. Having said that, AG2R pushed the pace today and Sky started to show some kinks in the armor. They are working hard to pull back every attack (they even worked to pull back Contador today, who's 5+ down). The last week is shaping up to be a real treat .

I have to rethink hating Sky if they are the only team that has shown up. I guess AG2R is there as well and has been beaten to this point, and I will certainly continue to root for them. But honestly, if no other teams are assembled to compete the way sky does, I don't see why to hold that against them.

You have a point. However, had there been a set budget limit per team, the playing field would have been better leveled making for a much more exciting
specticle. Just sayin

Perhaps they should have a draft pick (?!?!) like they do in American Football, but for current riders
