Ordered cable TV today just for Le Tour!

We don't watch a lot of TV, so I never took the plunge....seems like a waste for us to pay 50 bucks a month for something we won't use much.

But I want to be able to tape all the OLN coverage of Lance's final TDF.

Congrats! You'll be glad you did for the live coverage or even the rebroadcast coverage. OLN pretty much hijacks their programming during July (which ticks off the hunters and rodeo clowns out there) so you get to see the Tour at all hours of the day. And if you're into buying Tour DVDs you get to see way more coverage during the broadcasts than what they pare down for the DVDs (even the extended DVD sets). Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin provide great commentary. Not so keen on Bob Roll and I can't stand finger-pointing, talking over Paul and Phil, "Ugly American" Al Trautwig. But, hey, enjoy!!

I'm gonna do the same.

I haven't missed cable/satellite since I moved in February, but I do love the Tour (and NFL!). :D

hip, are you going ditch it after the tour? did you have to pay a bunch for installation and set-up? i assume you can get that money back if you cancel right? just curious on how much out of pocket money it took as i'm sort of thinking of doing the same thing.

Basic package.
45 a month.
25 installation.

Can kill it any time at no charge.
Two TV's...our main one and my small one downstairs in my new cycling room I am setting up now!
....

The Monday Night Football move to cable after this year pushed me too. I love my MNF in the winter.

OLN is in da house!

I hope my local cable decides to carry OLN for the 3 weeks the Tour is on. Damn, I hate Comcast. $53 a month for about 5 channels that I actually watch

harlot 06-23-05 09:39 PM

I ordered cable today just for the Tour too. Comcast has a $19.95/3 months/free installation special and no penalties for cancelling! Woohoo!!!

I did the same two years ago, it changed everything. Being able to watch 3 or 4 non stop hours of the tour. Plus I also get to see the vuelta and the giro (on TVE and RAI).

I hijacked the tv for the full month of July... and my brother just told me he'd splice my cable so I can watch it all day. With TiVo, I'm set! :)

Is this right? The USA has a champion rider who will probably win Le Tour, and you have to pay to view it live?
The Aussies are lucky, free to air and live:

I do the same thing every year. All year long I have crappy cable that costs $14.26
a month. Comcast doesn't advertise this rate, but it exists. You don't get anything
except the local channels, religion and shopping. And as of today I upgraded it
for OLN and Le Tour. At the end of July I'll go back to my $14.26 cable

I have the same package here in boston. They just added OLN today for free. I saw it in another thread so I checked my stations and there it was. I was going to call and upgrade but now I don't have to.

During July, OLN + TiVo = Bliss

my58vw 07-01-05 01:22 PM

Time to break out the video cassettes and VCR...

I wish I could afford a tivo right now... but I do not think I could get it in time for the tour...

The first day of the tour last year, I went to Cicuit City, bought the TiVo, hooked my Dish back up, (I had only free tv at the time) and called DirectTV to renew my plan. I was still able to catch the later showing of the prolog. TiVo is only $5 extra a month for me and right now you can get the DVR for $50 after rebate. You should look into it. It is so worth it.
