he probably fell while practicing the triumphant finish line arm raising, or maybe the no hands victory champagne sip.

From the Boston Globe...

Days before he will start his bid for a seventh consecutive Tour de France victory, Armstrong, distracted by a bee sting on his face, took a low-speed tumble off his bike last week. The fall left him with road rash and a black eye. It could have been worse. His helmet was split by the impact.

There's a guy who post in the "Safety" forum constantly claiming that helmets cause crashes. He bases that on stuff like "few people in Holland wear helmets, and few people in Holland ever crash" and "Americans wear helmets and Americans crash alot". Therefore, helmets cause crashes.

But, the other day, he topped himself. He said "Competent cyclists don't need helmets, because if you know how to ride a bike, you won't crash".

So, now we know: Lance's helmet caused him to crash. And, Lance does NOT know how to ride a bike.

if we're thinking of the same thread ("throw your helmet away")....than that's not the gist of it at all.

I felt I must respond to this tread because I have had a black eye or eyes in my case caused by a bicycle crash. In my case I went head on with the hood of an SUV went over the top of said hood superman style and landed on the fron lobe of the helmet. The impact ended up being heavily focused, becaue the helmet slid down on my forehead, on the low spot where the eyes/nose/forhead meet. This caused what I belive was a broken nose, and led to black eyes, I never visited the Dr. for confirmation as there were no other significant injuries, dizyness or other symptoms. So, in short black eyes can happen.

Yeah, he looks pretty beat up here.

All is well. The butt kicking begins tomorrow.

BTW...Vino wants that big new contract. Think he's going to work for Ullrich?

And what about Kloden?

That looks good compared to the interview he did on 60 minutes earlier this week. Anyone else catch it?

I think that was an old stock interveiw from his first 60 minutes apearance before the 2000 (or 2001) tour. I remember he was beat up then and I don't recall him saying anything that would date it, but I could be wrong.
