Seems like Gilberto Simoni is missing from this years TDF roster. With Cunego out of the running, is there a jersey contender in this squad?

Gianluca Bortolami
Salvatore Commesso
Gerrit Glomser
David Loosli
Eddy Mazzoleni
Evgeni Petrov
Daniele Righi
Alessandro Spezialetti
Gorazd Stangelj

I heard that Gilberto Simoni has some virus which is keeping him out of the tour. I can not remember what it was though. OLN did a little blurb on it, in their around the peleton Sunday.

Totally! Read about it on procycling.com yesterday. They made it sound like he was bitter about Cunego being picked to the squad instead of him (He was not chosen for the team for the tour in the first place). But when Cunego pulled out, they expected him to be chosen as the leader, but it sounds like he didn't want any part of it. He won't be on the team next year, so perhaps he is trying to get back at the team while he still can.

my guess is that he knows he won't perform well after the effort he put in at the Giro. He is going to try to recover and put in a strong performance at the Vuelta in hopes of landing a gig at a new team. A bad performance at the Tour wouldn't do him much good in that endeavor.
