road race tactics.

This confuses me. When a breakaway goes out, I understand why the sprinter's teams would want to catch it. What I don't understand is how it helps out teams like Discovery to have a team member like Hincapie chase down the breakaway. What advantage does that give Lance if he is not present in the chase?- Like what happened early in stage 8 today.

Thanks,

Erik

If George is in the break, Disco is expected not to do any work to help bring it back, so It is an "easy" day for them.

If the break had stayed, George could have ended up in yellow, or won the stage. George also doesn't have to work if he doesn't want too, especially if there are other GC Contenders in the break.

I have been looking for a good modern book on pro racing tactics. I have this one:

Racing Tactics For Cyclists
Thomas Prehn
ISBN 1-931382-30-1

which is good as far as it goes. Any others out there worth taking a peek at?

I would love to see one by LeFevre, or Bruyneel, etc.
