american stage winners

I heard that there are only 7 americans that have won a stage at the tour...George Hincapie, Lance Armstrong, Greg LeMond, Andy Hampston, David Zabinskie, Tyler Hamilton...so who am I forgetting?

Darn, Smoothie beat me to it! Phinney actually had two Tour de France stage wins: one in '86, one in '87.

I remember watching Jeff Pierce win, I couldn't believe it at the time, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 15 years old. I used to have all those TdF's on VHS tapes, but they were lost or taped over in the past 20 years... damn... I wish I had them now, I'd copy them to DVD's and share them with all you guys...

Andreu almost won in Paris too...

Was that the year Eddy Seigneur jumped away from the lead group?? Maybe 1994?

I've got 1990-1996 Tours on VHS gathering sut in the garage. Plus some vintage 1990 Wincanton Classic (Eric Van Lancker) and Kelloggs Tour of Britain....

Christ ... that takes me back. I can remember watching parts of the 1985 Milk Race when Lancker won the overall.

https://grahamwatson.com/dublin/misc/misc1.html s

some good old shots on here, click the 2nd and 3rd floor links at the top..... makes me want to wear my helmet more often....

Also click the links for the different rooms at the top right, Sean Kelly, Lemond etc... And for all the johnny come latley cycling fans, there's a Lance Armstrong page, when he was heavier.

FWIW the pic in the center of the Lemond Exhibit is perhaps my favorite Tour photo of all time, I used to have a poster of it.

I think Graham will sell you prints of most of his images....

Awesome photos. Some pearlers of Sean Kelly. I love that one from Lombardia where he's ripping Martial Gayant's (?) legs off.

Offically, according to the Tour de France website, Floyd Landis is credited with two stage wins from the '03 and '04 team time trial wins by USPS.

Great photos, thanks for the link.

I recently came accross my old school oakleys like the ones in the pics. I'm going to have to break them out when I ride my old roadie.

Speaking of American stage wins, interesting commentary from Andy Hampsten on his Alpe d'Huez stage victory in '92. Good look into his strategy/ thoughts:

(Sorry I didn't hot link to this)

Judging by Guisseppe Guerini's infamous collision with a spectator on Alpe d'Huez, I'd say Andy made the right call.
