UCI's decision to BAN FLOYD from using his aerobar....

It sucks imo. First they ban riders from using aerobars that are overly extended to the point where it looks like your flying like superman. ........fine.
But why would they stop someone from pulling the bars up so that at first it seems like you would be going slower. I would think something like that would make the UCI happy.

But noooooooooo they make Floyd point his aerobars down to the point where he wasn't comfortable with them.....then he gets equipment probs. Now he had to finish the TT stage 7 on his spare bike which isn't tuned to him at all. Thats not fair! And also, I think that up pointed aerobar techinique he came up with in the first place is very cool. It might be something I adopt down the line myself.

I couldn't understand it myself but some bike geek named "gemma" who I guess hates Floyd for some reason researched the UCI regulation Floyd apparently broke. I wouldn't be surprised if she emailed her findings straight to the UCI right after Floyd's prologue.

Here, read for yourself: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.b...b28bf892c95578

I have a question, hopefully someone can help me. Who on the team is responsible to make sure a bicycle meets the UCI requirements? Is there a particular position that oversees this? I don't think Floyd Landis is responsible for all these details. If someone at Phonak is responsible then they need to get their act together. Floyd is capable of winning the tour he doesn't need these distractions.

The rules are the same for both TT's. If it is illegal today, it's illegal for the final TT.

can someone please post a link on this subject? I've been trying to find it but cannot find it. I thought if your bike doesn't meet the regulation, you're automatically DQ'd. Is this not right? How can a guy who used something that's illegal and still keep his time?

UCI has always done their bit to pseudo-level the playing field. Never made sense. Not very different from that other fumbling agency FIA who's struggling with levelling the autoracing field. Neither realizes that you can't make things perfectly even in competitive sport involving machiners, unless you spec out bikes, cars to a neutral manufacturer and hand them over to teams to use. All they can do is hold back development. What is wrong with a 5lb carbon bicycle made in Taiwan, that costs $500?

1.3.022 and 1.2.023

Likely the aerobars are above the plane defined by the saddle height or are more than 75cm from the BB. There are simple rules to follow as outlined in the rulebook. Likely the mechanic was pushing the envelope and got caught.
