Rabid Fans & Protesters

I understand the hype, but im just waiting for another one of these fans in the the middle of the road to take some/one of the riders out (wouldnt be the 1st time, i know)

This 1 guy had a cup of water, and when the rider ignored him, he THREW the water in his FACE
ive seen the showering and cooling off splashes, but this guy didnt look like he was trying to help, just like someone would throw a drink in your face if they were mad at you.
maybe its just me, but that looked like he was trying to hit the rider in the face to mess him up.

so what if one of these people running backwards to get out of the way falls and riders run into him ?
does UCI do anything about that riders bad luck ?

Then there was the protest I only caught a glimpse of, but they STOPPED the riders waving thier banners, and I remember when this happend to lance in 03, and UCI says "tuff luck"
is this still the current rule ?

quote:
Tour officials immediately ruled the protest was a "normal race incident," meaning riders would have to suffer the penalties of being caught in the protest.

If someone wants to explain why the Basque region fans are so rabid about shaking their flags in peoples faces, I'd welcome that as well. I see plenty of other flags, but none waved so annoyingly or so risky as do the Basque people.

Because they're still pissed off about their entire language, culture, and nation being illegal for 50 years....

Of course, they've been complaining all the way to the bank recently, but...

Go back to 51 (or perhaps 50) when both Italian teams withdrew even though they had BOTH the current leader and the race favorite because their riders were threatened by a fan with a knife.

The answer is the classic line,

Because that's the way its always been.

It's just part of the 'charm' of Le Tour.

Here's an idea: let a team of messengers enter the Tour. There would be a truly epic beatdown, and it wouldn't happen again for a long time.

a can of mace fits neatly in a jersey pocket, and would end this problem quickly.

How 'bout Casar nearly getting his wheels stolen on the Cauberg after a crash...or Paolocrashing into a spectator on Wednesday and then dropping out on Thursday?
