Landis winning the tour without winning a stage?

I think it would be a little weak if the overall tour winner doesn't win at least one stage.

Lemond was the last one in 1990. There was a bloke (can't remember who) who never wore the yellow jersey for the whole tour...but still won

It was Jan Janssen in 1968, but he won 2 stages that year, including the last stage which was an ITT, coming from 16 secs down to win by 38 secs, the 2nd closest margin in tour history

I think Floyd, if he doesn't win today, will win the TT coming up.

Last thing we need is for another bloody Yank to win the Tour!

Dead Extra #2 07-19-06 06:40 AM

Bugger off. That may be the last thing we need but the last thing that will actually happen is a win by a roo-shagging descendant of a British convict.

It would of been, except he had to think about the last quip for half an hour before he edited his post :D

Geez... what about the bloody Aussies and their obsession with the Green Jersey?

(just kidding... Robbie is too cool... )

Funny how you get so aggressive, over such a minor sentence. You've had Lance win for years, so its time you opened your eyes and reliased not one other country wants an American to win (yes there are other contries besides USA out there).

Oh and "roo-shaggin descendant of a British convict" - Shows your knowlege of the outside world at its best! Haha at you. Did you pick that off the Simpsons or something? *roll eyes*

Enjoy!

I like it, a good response to that seppo remark.

My response has little to do with that "minor sentence". It has everything to do with me being tired of Aussies bashing Americans here. I just happened to be in a foul mood yesterday and your idiotic statement was a good place to focus my ire.

Also, its time you opened your eyes and realized that Americans will always want an American to win, pretty much like every other country in the world. I don't remember the last time I read a French headline that said "Citizens across France are really hoping for a Spanish rider to win the tour this year."

The "roo-shaggin descendant of a British convict" is all mine, custom made for you and Trek Al is exactly right about why I used it. Once again, I'm just tired of America bashing. Also, please think of something to replace the old "ignorant of the outside world" crap. Its old, its tired, and its wrong.

Just so I don't give the wrong impression here, I don't mean to bash decent Australians. It's been a lot of fun watching McEwan dust everybody at the line, but I still want a Seppo to win.

Forget about winning the tour without a stage win. What about winning after yesterday's performance. I hope he can come back today strong.

Dead Extra #2 07-20-06 08:18 AM

It would be great. Seems unlikely after yesterday, but as crazy as this tour is, it seems possible.

baj32161 07-20-06 08:34 AM

Indeed!

-VELOCITY- 07-20-06 08:44 AM

Don't look now but he's making quite the move. Go Floyd!

bockwho 07-20-06 09:30 AM

..ah... hold on a min....

whatever.

bfloyd 07-20-06 09:49 AM

Not only a stage win but a domination!!

-VELOCITY- 07-20-06 11:15 AM

I guess this thread will need a new title.

james_swift 07-20-06 11:24 AM

Flandis rulez.

gear 07-20-06 02:20 PM

Nothing weak about that performance.

cuda2k 07-20-06 02:33 PM

Well, I guess we answered that question today.

Thank god Landis bonked, would'nt it have been awful if he continued the cautious, defensive approach all the way to Paris. People would have said he won but he did it against a weak field of riders. Now if he wins everyone can agree the guy deserved to win. He proved it on July 20th.
