Seriously though, he didn't even stop by the press for an interview. He just went straight to his car. Obviously, this wasn't another planned tactical move on his part. He seemed pissed. :|
So he misses one refueling and he lost the energy needed to finish?

cyclingnews.com has an interview they did with him after the stage. He said not eating enough was a problem. Very forthright answers to tough questions. I like the guy more every time I read what he has to say.

Watching him during the stage, I thought he had run out of fuel. He also said in one of his interviews that he felt bad all day.
So my assessment - he didn't re-fuel enough after the previous stage and started the day with insufficient reserves. In that situation there is no way he would have been able to eat enough on the road to make up for the deficit and as a result bonked big time.

Here's what Voigt said about it, "He noted that French TV gave the 'official' explanation that Landis didn't have enough to eat and therefore lost so much time. That is of course a terrible mistake, that no one should allow themselves to make in the Tour. It was hard to find the right time to eat during the stage, though. When you climb, you're at your limit, you don't want to have you mouth full of some sticky chocolate bar, and descending you have both hands on the handlebars, because you're afraid for your life. When you forget one time to eat, then it can have a terrible revenge on you."

am pretty new and stupid about all this, and the points about the limited opportunities for feeding on such a stage are noted, but still find it hard to believe that landis/phonak lost the yellow jersey for want of fuel....
shame either way - would have been delighted to see landis do it...

Today's stage......DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN !!!!
Sorta makes sense though. Yesterday when he didn't want to talk to the press and just went dissapointed in the car I saw his face...
....he was dissapointed with his performance and cause of the mistakes he made.
I think that explains todays stage. FLOYD WAS PISSSSSED!!!
