Excuse my ignorance...isn't there supposed to be a Team Time Trial?

Did I miss something? Maybe I missed the particular stage but isn't there supposed to be a Team Time Trial in the tour?
Saturday's time trial is solo correct? Did the rules change or something?

they got rid of 'em, despite the entertainment value they punish good riders on bad teams too much...

Dang.
I must say the tour this year must be the weirdest one yet. Yeah, I kinda missed seeing Team Lance decimate the opposition while lookin all synchronized with the rest of the team. Why was it considered a hindrance.....the team time trial I mean.

What rules? There are no rules. This year Tour rides anti clockwise, next year maybe clockwise. Alpe d'Huez was a mountain stage finish, next year maybe not. Tour organisers try to diversify the programme every year. That's the Tour de France !

Hindsight statement:

With so many riders being disqualified because of Operation Peurto, the TTT would have been a hardship on some of the teams.

Team TT was just too popular, they had to eliminate it because we enjoyed it so much.

Speaking of 'no rules', I like how they massaged the rule of the 10% finish (the slowest rider must finish within 10% of the fastest rider's time) or be disqualified. If they had adhered to that there would be about 40-some riders in the field now.

I miss it too. There is nothing like watching 9 men hammering along in perfect synch!! Truly one of the best visions in all of sport.

Oh well. In any case Floyd's comeback at stage 17 was something to behold though. Saturday's last time trial should be just as dramatic and exciting. I hope this time Floyd actually shows up at the starting line BEFORE it starts.

The race organizers have always allowed themselves to waive that rule and with good reason. The rule prevents skylarking and bad behavior at the back of the race. On a really tough day; when a large part of the peloton is obviously not screwing off but simply unable to react to some awesome performance by the stage winner, they choose to waive the rule. It would be in no one's interests to eliminate half the field. Like a good bike: rigid but flexible.

The rule is far more complex than that and they followed it to the letter. If they went with 10% there would be under 6 riders left. Guess you missed that stage.

Well then, instead of a solo prologue they could have started the tour off with a single team time trial. Then the rest could have been solo.
I mean, I think that would have been fair no?

No. The whole point of the prologue is to determine who wears yellow.
