Has any other country got 8 in a row? SPOILER
Does anybody know if this is a new record? I dont think any other countries have won eight in a row. Looks like Belgium and America both won 7 in a row, but can anyone clarify?

A country does not win the Tour. A person wins the Tour. If that person is from Belgium, Spain, or Italy, he wins with the support and encouragement of most of his countrymen. If that person is an American, he must overcome the lack of support providing to cyclists by high schools and colleges in the USA, and the lack of support from the general public.
The key to an American becoming successful at a world-class level in cycling is to leave the USA at the youngest possible age, and race on a team where most of the cyclists are NOT Americans. |

To answer the question originally asked.
NO However the U.S. does not have the longest streak and the current win streak by the U.S. also would fail in terms of most dominant. Belgium won 7 Tours in a row, with WW I breaking them up. Thus a longer streak in terms of years. Also one of those years they took the top 3 places which depending on how you count 1947 has never been duplicated. |

The US hardly supports cycling as a sport either by event or by individual rider. Europe has far more pride of their cyclists. Neither Floyd nor Lance will ever have the name recognition of football or baseball players in the US... sadly... Well Maybe Lance, but I doubt Floyd. It is truly sad as with all this positive cycling energy... one might hope to see kids all over practicing to be the next TDF champion. Not hardly. Of course Little League and Pop Warner football will get the usual attention. |
