perhaps i was being overzealous:

G de G

A combination of injury and French bureaucracy prevented González de Galdeano from taking part in the 2003 Tour de France.[26] González de Galdeano was adjudicated to have doped by the French authorities, for his use of the asthma drug salbutamol.

It sounds like it could be another name for Basso. Also, Euskaltel also has a rider named Iban Mayoz.

moral of the story is if you want to win the Tour clean get into a suicide break with 5-10 no-hopers, win a stage by 20-30 minutes then try to hang on til the end.

no * next to armstrong?

in 2000 USPS was filmed throwing away empty packages of actovegin, (blood substitue made from cows, used to speed the oxygen absorbtion into tissues) note: was not a banned substance at the time, because it was not approved for use in humans at that time, but I guess if it wasnt banned, it must not be doping..

You're catching on. If it's not banned, it's a nutritional supplement.

I'm stopping now. Sorry, but your list is as thorough as the lab that tested FL's urine samples.
I thought there was a bag cleverly disguised as "Ivan May" or some such that I read...

Pereiro was on Phonak. He's Spanish. If he didn't, he's the only one. Now on his new team, Caisse, Valverde's been mentioned.

The short list is who hasn't been mentioned.

Doping is supposed to help them ride faster. Faster riders often finish higher in the rankings. A list of dopers should, by definition, be similar to a list of faster riders. Some riders will have natural talent enough to compete with less talented but doping peers and will intrude upon the winners list. Given this list goes back to '96 and that Festina was in '98 and OP in '06 (with many other busts in between) it shouldn't surprise anyone that a list of top riders and a list of dopers are similar- thus noting the number of dopers on a list of top 10 finishers of the past 10 years is profound.

Being a doper doesn't mean that they will finish top 10 and finishing top 10 does not necessarily mean that they doped. Papp showed that mediocre riders dope to be better but still mediocre riders.

Wouldn't Actovegin have fallen under the ban on methods used to enhance performance. I thought specific substances don't need to be banned if they fall under general categories of doping, etc.

Besides, we all know the Actovegin was for road rash... oh wait, or for their head mechanic's diabetes.

This might work in a 1-week tour, but a 3 week tour is just too long. I do not think a clean rider would even be able to protect a 20 - 30 minute advantage throughout the entire 3-weeks when competing against dopers.

I think that anyone who you've heard of doing well in a UCI race in the last 15 years was doping. Let's be real about this.

How about a double asterix for Pantani, he was just a coke-head, sad, but definately not perfomance enhancing.

gilberto simoni once tested positive for coke as well. but it turned out his dentist blew it up his nose, so he had nothing to do with it. or was he the one who's mom unkowingly made him cocaine cookies? i forget.

Mr. 60 - I put that in the original post. Wasn't sure (didn't look) if it was rumour, speculation or what. I'm sure there's a link somewhere to it if it's true. If so... he'll be updated as well....
