There seems to be a spike in activity between 2000-2003 as everyone was trying to beat Lance, before he demoralized the peloton and activity dropped off again.

This list needs to show the top 20 finishers from each race. I would like to see how deep this runs.

If you could do it twice it might work. However, because it might work, you would never even be allowed to go on that second break. THey would run you down easily (which they could do because they are doping and you aren't).

It might be safe to say that doping is a TDF tradition, not that any abhorrent tradition is justifiable.

In what context? I'd love to know, I mean did he take tons of it, or what?

More names are sure to come out with the T-Moble squad including Zabel doping in the 1996 Tour.

so it's pretty clear from this list that lance was doping, no?

I don't buy the superhuman argument. They are all superhuman to begin with.

A lack of red/asterisks makes sense for the last couple of tours based on the criteria for inclusion... the percentage of dopers would be low since some of them haven't been caught or confessed yet.

However, what happened in 1998??? Was there a one year period when most doping cyclists took the year off? Or maybe those that did were not very good at it and couldn't crack the top 10.

In '98 some dopers got booted and some hid their doping better than others. You shouldn't assume that "most doping cyclists took the year off?"

I knew there had to be something, the lack of stars stands out too much to not have something different that year.

Thanks!

Looks like Bjarne just released his statement as well. Updated list again....

Quote:
"I have taken doping. I have taken EPO," Riis said at a televised news conference. "I have made errors and I would like to apologize."Riis said he used the substances from 1993 to 1998, including during his Tour victory.
