Spanish Names
I've seen Alberto Contador referred to as Alberto Contador Velasco, Pereiro as Pereiro Sio, Valverde as Valverde Belmonte and Sastre as Sastre Candil. Can anyone tell me the history behind this?

Often the mother's surname is dropped in common reference. Other times, people are confused by them and think the father's name is their middle name. Helio Castro Neves (Indycar racer) changed his name slightly to Castroneves so both names would be used without confusion or one being dropped.
