This is the official 'Rooting for Cadel' thread.
You know it makes sense.

This is looking like the first year in a long time where the rider I hoped would win, won't.

If you won't root for Cadel then pulling for him is an acceptable substitute.

I was hoping that Christian would be able to pull off the miracle. After pulling for Lance/Floyd/Contador - looks like the run is going to be over.

Unless VandeVelde can pull an epic "Floyd-type" stage (minus the artificial booster), I'm afraid the best we can hope for is a podium, and that's only if he can rally in today's stage and at least suffer no further losses. His crash was hard to swallow, losing 30-40 seconds wouldn't have seemed so bad, but 2:30 and change was rough!

Yup .... apparently he not only got dropped, but he crashed on the downhill. That's where he lost most of the time. Now he's REALLY under the radar!

only reason I have any desire to see Evans win is he's on my fantasy team.

Even so, I'd love to see Sastre ride the TT of his live and hold on for the win.

Rather see someone win the race as the result of going for it, rather than just marking others.

I really don't understand why so many people, or at least it seems, dislike Cadel Evans?

Sadly, if he does, we can guess everyone's first reaction...

I agree. Cadel has been smart. He has ridden well. He is focused on the ultimate prize. But I just don't like the idea of winning the Tour without winning a stage.

I notice the other day, he pushed one of the mics out of his way and then went on to be very gracious to Vs. Maybe Vs being a love fest of cycling is good.

I think he lacks panache on the bike is the problem.

I guess I was expecting something more substantive underlying the anti-Cadel sentiment...

Lack of panache? Ok, sure, why not.

Cadel has to be the most boring GC rider I've seen. I don't think riding with the attitude of "how many minutes can I lose on this stage" (stage 17) is one that we should see from a champion. I do like the Schlek boys, but frankly wanted to see Menchov do better. A least they attack and try to get time on their rivals, not just hope not to lose too much time to make it up in the TT. Seems to one-dimensional to me. But am I saying I could do it? Nope. If Cadel wins, good for him, but I was falling asleep during yesterday's stage from 3:30 to 9:00am, PST. Was hoping for more to keep me awake.

I am hoping to see Cadel do something special on the TT. If he does, he deserves the win. If not, then Sastre deserves it.

From my recollection, Sastre basically did little in the tour worthy of a winner either other than the ride up the Alp de Huez (as amazing as it was) so how is he any more worthy of being the winner of the tour than Cadel? Especially if he were to have an extraordinary TT?

Carlos had an amazing team supporting him and the Schlecks, and Cadel was basically on his own with CSC trying to hurt him up every climb in the mountains, while they were there to support Sastre and each other...

If Sastre rides into Paris with a small lead over Evans, then who was really the better rider?

It is a team sport, and I definitely won't begrudge Sastre the victory, and I know CSC will have the team victory, and they definitely deserve it. But I am hoping Evans can muster up something from deep down to at least make Sastre sweat.

But, there is a part of me that wants to see Sastre do the best TT of his career and prove that he is the true champion.
