TDF Goes From 2yr Ban to 4yr Ban

the tour announced that starting in 2009 it will ban riders for 4 years for doping. who would risk losing a career over doping now ? i'm sure there will be a few i applaud the new rules though

With the small actual cumulative number of winners in the last 20 years do you suppose it will become a closer battle?

It actually has been a relatively close battle the past few years. Not LeMond-Fignon close, but it's hardly been a runaway. Give Cadel a healthy knee, add in Contador, Basso, Sastre, the Schleck Brothers (maybe), and 2009 could be quite an exciting year.

The TDF itself does not have the power to ban riders from racing outside of the tour and the races it owns. The UCI and a riders own countires cycling association does.

Yes, but they could tell the teams if that person is on the team you don't get invited.

I guess this should be no surprise to anyone. Perhaps it will help clean things up. I remain the eternal optimist!

I think we're all with you there Suzi. We all hope it gets cleaned up, nothings worse than the kids watching the tour with you and actually getting excited about it then guys start getting booted.
