The radio ban is a good thing, but why mess with things in the middle of the race?

The directeurs are not riding the bikes-the riders' instincts and tactical talent has to be left to them.......

I am not seeing much comment on the subject...

LOL!!!

It does! But, at least it's direct from the riders vs. velonews/cyclingnews/etcnews and immediate. What I do find interesting is how quickly they are to twitter after a race. Some times it's within minutes! Like they are thinking about it on the last km, hop off the bike and twitter away!

lol!

But, like I said in the stage 11 thread, I wonder if there will be some anti-protesting tomorrow to show "how much better" the races are with radios....

Personally, with how conservative cycling can be, I'm surprised they were ever allowed. I'd love to read & hear all the commentary when they were first allowed.

I have only one comment about the no radio situation.

Manolo Saiz in a car behind a rider with a speaker blaring "VENGA VENGA VENGA!!!"

LOL seriously? I mean, maybe this is the one thing that was certain to happen with no radios.

From the video

"we are in a hotel room, MY hotel room....." Ok, we get it, its all about you Lance

"this is not the time to be humble, you're on LIVESTRONG.com" not everyone is as pompous as you. Lance in these videos reminds me of the obnoxious loud friend at the bar talking over everyone else trying to be in the spot light while everyone else is just like, wow

"Other riders were *****ing and whining that you were winning too much" - funny how he *****ed and whined about Contador.....

"Typical first week Tour stuff, nothing to talk about....."
Yea, other than sprint stages and seeing some of the best sprints in the world. I guess other peoples life time dream to win a stage means nothing.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding the racing somewhat boring so far. Racing might be too strong a word. The TT's were good, but the rest seems like fast touring.

The UCI is experimenting with trying to get the proverbial genie back in the bottle. Good luck with that. If they didn't want radios, they should have stopped it with Motorolla years ago.

This WAS an experiment . . . and a bad one at that. The TDF is no place to be trying this stuff . . the Pro Tour calendar is filled with stage races all year long they can play their games with.

There is no best racing scenerio though. Weather they have radios or not . . it's all relative. Riders and fans adapt to whatever is presented. So, this little experiment today was really an exercise in how to waffle.

Have you ever heard the saying ...... "crap, or get off the pot?" Make a decision one way or the other.

Oh & hey.... Another Howzit post stating how Lance Armstrong is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Dang dood. You ever going to get off your Lance loving saddle and join the real world? Perhaps just admiring him from the sidelines may be a better road to take than stating your love at every turn.

Oh well. Hero worship will eventually lead to heartbreak. Be carefull sonny.

Stories are legend of retired ONCE racers now confined to psychiatric institutions throughout Europe. Even when drugged they can be seen trying to pedal non-existent bikes while muttering VENGA VENGA VENGA!

It's sad.

Now imagine that in your ear via some variation of a stupid ear bud, all day, "venga venga venga". At least you could escape into the peloton pile when you needed a break before radios.

We get it. You hate Lance. You do realize that is his website, thought, right? I mean, if I really hate someone, I don't follow everything they do. I don't get onto their website and watch their videos. I'm starting to wonder if you are gonna sneak into his house to find something wrong with him, or look through his garbage.

I'll see if I can lay this out for you. Right now, the biggest event in cycling is happening. These threads are about that, and typically, during this time of year, this whole subforum is about the Tour. You wouldn't go onto a soccer forum, into the professional soccer subforum, during the World Cup, and not expect to hear about anything other than the World Cup.

Second, the rider with the most Tour wins under his belt and who retired has come back this year. If Lance was some no name rider, then it would be weird to be hearing all about the drama surrounding him, but Lance has won more Tours than anyone in the sport. Of course people are going to talk about him and discuss his strategies. It's only natural.

Third. Just shut the **** up. I don't know who's more annoying; Lance fanboys or you. I don't know if Lance ran over your dog or what, but you need to get over this. As long as he's still one of the biggest names in cycling, people who follow cycling will be talking about him and be interested in him.

This morning on the pre-race show, Paul said that back when Motorola first brought out the radios, that Bob Roll would change the channel and listen to music .

I suppose the DS could make them all wear iPods and put some really fast-tempo music on the things..

As far as the safety concern, really, I think the race organizers should improve that. I do like racers being racers and not being tools for some coach somewhere. If I wanted that, I'd watch some other team sport.

I'm fairly new to le tour and I have enjoyed reading about it on bf (learning quite a lot actually ).

But everytime Howzit mentions LA I want to bash my head against a wall.

The race organizers should be rounded up, taken behind the barn, and shot. The finishes to these clear sprint stages look more like go-kart tracks than sprinting alleys.

Imagine Cavendish bombing his way through this:
