2009 Tour De France Fashion Fiesta
The Pro Peleton can be real fashion queens.
One only needs to scrub back to a Tour of 10 years ago to see all the big-bug eyed shades that swept the field. With the Compulsory Helmet rule from a few years ago, Helmets looks like Klingon Ships. The "deep-dish" wheel craze is in full force this year, along with the "integrated seat post frame" craze. The one thing I noticed though, is that the shades they are wearing this year look horrible. I mean, utterly ugly, Im talking worse than Kanye West shades bad. What happened? Any other fashion streak you picked up on? |
You think they are uglier than Lemond's original Oakleys?

Hincapie has the market on fugly sunglasses.

I think it's a function over fashion thing right now as far as gear's concerned. Now the kits.... ugh.

http://mi.oakley.com/a/84/62/BAh7CGk...ZIaQhpAmIB.jpg Do you guys think Cavi is trying to be like Mario Cipo all decked out in green? I think the prize goes to Cancallera though. The shot of him on the front of the peleton today on his yellow Specialized was pretty cool |
He been in all yellow for a couple of days now. That is one bright TT helmet

Have you guys noticed that in Time Trials, there are two fashion trends that are gone now?
The two band aids just below the knee caps for time trials, and the band aid on the bridge of the nose. Im kinda bummed about the helmet rule, I loved the bandana days   The cycling caps were not bad either |

http://mi.oakley.com/a/84/62/BAh7CGk...ZIaQhpAmIB.jpg The brow pad was great at keeping sweat out of your eyes - until it became saturated, you bumped the glasses, and a deluge rivaling Niagara Falls was unleashed directly in to your eyes! |
Dang, those look like snorkeling goggles.

Mario Cippolini's eyewear was often downright silly too. Check these out:
