cordell evans goes on the attack ....with his purse!

"I took advantage of an opportunity at the start, but to no avail, "said Evans. "It wasn’t planned."

Then he turned his guns on the media; to be precise, "ignorant members of the media who say I never attack."

He continued: "I get so sick of being told, ‘Why don’t you go in an early break? Why don’t you do this? Why don’t you do that?’ Do you think anyone in the Tour de France would let me go in a break?"

He was similarly unimpressed with his breakaway companions. "I get in the breakaway and they carry on like three-year olds with a tantrum, saying, ‘Err, get out of the group… they are going to chase us.’ Honestly, that is typical bike riders’ tactics. They are more than welcome to go back to the peloton if they want."

It's pretty much confirmed now...

Cadel should try to get the Lanterne Rouge. I would wager that he gets second in that category as well.

I feel for his frustrations.

Nah, Boonen has got the Lanterne Rouge in his sights this year.

Boonen will bail before the end if he does not get close to even competing for a sprint finish soon. He looks so beat down and hitting the road can't make life any better.

Cancellara and Hoshovd are scared of Astana. Evans is not.

oh man, hilarious thread title... i think everyone pretty much realizes that cadel's attacks lack substance and depth... it might be good enough to force selection from the main pack but it doesn't seem to hurt any of the top GC guys.

Last year half these forums crucified Evans because he never attacked. He's attacked twice already this tour, and he's still not getting love.

Put Cadel on Astana and any other GC guy on Silence Lotto, I'd take Cadel. He has his flaws as a rider, but I don't get all the hate.

As for George, I thought his comments were classless, and hugely disappointing given his reputation.

Quote:
“The problem was Cadel was there, so we spent a lot of energy trying to get rid of him,” Hincapie told reporters at the finish. “We finally got rid of him by attacking non-stop and then three guys came from behind and caught us before the feed zone. Those were three guys who basically were the strongest on the last climb because they didn’t burn any matches.”

Why would George help Cadel put time into Tony Martin. George doesn't ride for Cadel and SIL.

Cadel needs to start a breakaway, or attack on the mountains when it's just the strongmen left to get respect from those who say he doesn't attack. Making enemies by guaranteeing the failure of an established breakaway is not good.

Evans created the breakaway.
