uneffing believable... that's pretty insulting but he definitely handled it well. can you imagine them playing the wrong national anthem at an F1 podium or the olympics... all hell would break loose.

OMG! What a clusterf- of a situation. Imagine working your whole life. Obtaining your goal, then watching your flag rise up above everyone else's to the tune of the Dutch anthem. I'm sure Armstrong didn't mind with all of his negative comments about Alberto during the race.

One kind of has to wonder if someone did it on purpose.

Just seemed an unlikely coincidence given the events of his first Tour win.

LOL! Armstrong made some comments about past Tour winners being underserving. He didn't mention Contador directly. He did really piss off Sastre and Van de Velde. I wouldn't be surprised if Armstrong said that Contador wouldn't have won his first tour if Rasmussen hadn't been kicked out. If I recall correctly, Rasmussen was in the yellow jersey and was killing Contador in the mountains before he was removed from the race. Rasmussen is Dutch. Dutch anthem, hmmm.

I gotta' say, at least you're consistent.

Good one guys. I'm not too uptight and stubborn to admit fault when I have made one. Big-time blunder on my part. I'm not even going to edit my earlier mistake on reply #7 or #14 in case anyone wants to see it. Yes. You are right. Haha! LOL!
I said earlier that Rassmussen was Dutch. Ooops! He's Danish, not dutch! I do realize that the national anthem that was played was also Danish. I meant to write "danish" not "dutch". Oh well. I'm sure Rasmussen fans got a good laugh at their own national anthem being played when Contador's flag was raised. Rasmussen was in the yellow jersey when he got kicked out of the 2007 Tour that Contador later went on to win.

Though a Danish friend thought it was odd that the Spanish had used the same melody as the Danish for their anthem. Kind of like "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and "God Save the Queen."

Hello everyone...
I realize that this is last weeks news, but I have to ask:
Was this fiasco acknowledged by Phil and Paul during the telecast? I watched every stage of the TDF this year (DVRd due to my work schedule) and though I saw all of the race, the award ceremony wasn't recorded because it went overtime. I've scoured the internet to find a video of the event with english commentary, but thus far have come up empty. I'm just curious, that's all.
Phil and Paul are pretty bright and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if one of them (or both) recognized the error as it happened. Was it?
