What does Lance really ride?

5900? madone? sl ? ssl ? (what the heck are those 2 last ones)

i also heard that sometimes he rides a different bike that gets repainted as a trek?

can somebody try to clarify? does he ride different bikes for personal / tt / race / ttt / etc uses?

this year Lance is on the Madone SL for usual stages and SSL for mountains...

he rode a rebadged litespeed for TT in 99 - but that's been a while.

Today stage 3 they introduce a new bike that only Lance has. The special version of Madone that design at wind tunnel to minimize the wind as much as possible, very cool look. I have to watch it again since I didn't paying a lot attention to it.

There are also subtle differences...for example, he uses a Deda Newton stem, and if you buy the bike from Trek you get a Bontrager lite stem. Different handlebars, too, from the stock bike from Trek.
But the frame and the groupset (Dura Ace) are the same. Stock stuff.
The TT bike is a different story, entirely.
They experimented with an ultralight carbon (55 I believe down from the 110 they use for the 5900 and the Madone series)...the new Madone take out the seat post aero package and rounded out the seat stays. On the 5.9 they have more of an aerofoil shape.

Last year he pulled out an older bike to ride during the race. I'd bet it's stashed in the back of the trailer somewhere.
