OK, i'm watching the prime-time re-broadcast, which is the only time I get to watch, and they show a stupid commercial for tomorrow's stage which gives away the result today. This while I'm watching, and an hour before the end!

AAAAGGGGHH!

reminds me of when I would watch the Formula 1 broadcast on ESPN2. When it was tape delayed, they would tell the winner at their sports update at the bottom of the screen... so I would cover the bottom few inches of the TV before I would watch the race.

Seriously, if you're not watching it at the time, just assume that you're going to hear it from someone else before you get your eyes on the re-broadcast. They really don't try to keep this like it's the world's best kept secret.

Yeah, yeah, yeah....I know, i know.

But how much brainpower does it take to avoid giving away the end of the race while you are showing it? That's what amazed me.

For all the female-dogging and moaning we do about OLN--Trautwig, Gum, , Crow, travelogue fluff, spoilers, etc.--let's face the fact that television coverage of pro-cycle racing is light years ahead of what we had just a few short years ago.

Every day I have a live video feed from France with the highly professional Phil and Paul calling the race. It doesn't get much better than that.

I remember cussing at the tube back in the era of Adrian Karsten.

Um, how can you be watching primetime and see tomorrow's stage? There is no result until about 11:00 am EST the day of the race. When you're watching *primetime* at 8pm EST, Lance and everyone else is sleeping :) Heck, even the 1am broadcast could only show you Lance drinking his coffee... Did you misinterpret the commercial (maybe showing last year's TdF?). Remember, France is only 6 hours ahead (5 right now because of DST). It's physically impossible to see the next day's results while watching any OLN coverage of the current stage...

They showed a promo for tomorrow's (now today's) stage that gave away the result of the stage I was trying to watch (Stage 3) on their prime time re-broadcast (same day). Specifically, it said "See if Lotto Domo can keep Robbie McEwen in the Yellow Jersey!" and showed him wearing it on the podium. This, of course, occurred at the end of the race I was trying to watch.

Not only do I occasionally work 36 hours at a time, but I am a Tour de France fanatic. I'll set the vcr to record one morning's live coverage in the hopes of watching it the next day. Then I'll work my shift, get home at noon, watch the taped race and then the current day's re-braodcast. I won't let anyone tell me results or look them up. I love the excitement of the finish. Tonight, I was mortified when a commercial revealed the results of the TTT...only halfway through!!!! On top of that, they interviewed Ms. Crow instead of showing Lance on the podium.

Oh! OK. Gotcha. Thought you were watching Stage 2 and they were giving the results for Stage 3... I was wondering how that was even possible. You're telling me they "cut & pasted" footage from the live morning broadcast that let you know who won that same night... Duh. Makes sense now (at least, your explanation does, NOT their decision to give it away like that :) )

My daughter saw the afternoon replay and was taunting me all evening about telling me who was in yellow. She cracked up last night as the promo for stage 5 stage came on and announced who had taken the yellow. Nevertheless, it was a magnificent ride by the Postal team.
