What's Realistically Next for Fabian Cancellara?

Thought the fellow did pretty well in the TdF, though it was a shame about that last TT. Anyway, I'm wondering what would be a realistic goal for him given all that he has done thus far:

mmm... More of same?

He can be a pretty good sprinter - had one bunch sprint victory in the TdF I think.

He can also work on smaller races such as Tour de Suisse ...

Or stand in for Patrick Dempsey.http://blogs.setonhill.edu/TiffanyGi...y1_300_400.jpghttp://kennettron.files.wordpress.co...y__334x400.jpg

likely working towards being in peak form for the worlds-especially the itt on
september 24 in his back yard of switzerland. dunno if he's doing the vuelta
or any other scheduled racing before that though.

I'd have to think he's going to take a shot at the world road championship at some point.

DMF 08-06-09 06:44 PM

I think you're right. That would be cool, too.

I just had a left-field thought. Would it make sense to handicap riders in the mountains based on body mass? Yeah, it probably wouldn't be workable, but ...

Thor with a shot at GC?

He was second at the 2008 Paris-Roubaix. Maybe he should try to win in 2010?

Magnus will have many teams knocking on his door.

2006. There were disqualifications for those ahead of him though.

They were behind not ahead.

One or two years ago, Cancellara said he might try for the overall in the coming years. At the time, he wanted to focus on the classics/WC.

I wonder if he will pull a Wiggins next year.

he did pretty well in the mountains for a bigger guy but he will not be able to hold on to the accelerations of the little guys when the grade goes up.
