TOI.....Spoiler inside

In heavy rains that saw the final lap closed due to the weather, Russell Downing wins the Tour of Ireland. LA dropped out citing on his twitter page that "About to fly to Dublin. Rough day today on the bike. The ol' back was not in a good way and st patty's hill wasn't looking too cozy". The wet, windy and dangerous conditions contributed to 56 riders retiring from the race, leaving only 47 men standing come the end of racing (BBC News)

Congrats to Downing for a great performance.

Along with more than half the riders that started. The conditions were horrendous and they reduce the loop from 3 to 2. I could see where if you did not have a chance of winning, that the conditions might cause you to bail.

It looked like almost every big name in the race abandoned. Maybe they just didn't want to risk injury on St. Patty's Hill?

spoiler in the heading
Sorry. How's it a spoiler when it was posted almost 6 hours after the race was over? I was watching football and it was on the BBC. Sometimes I forget the world revolves around the U.S.

I predict that since he lost, we'll never see LA again.

Kind of sucks for the winner...that winner's ceremony must have been pretty sad since everyone basically had left.

Guess LA didn't find continuing the race worth risking injury. It was a smart move...always thinking ahead...not wanting to jeopardize the future with "The Shack" team on the horizon. Any ways, he was only there for Livestrong exposure, and he got a lot of exposure the first few stages already.

Don't see any point soldering on in a minor race.

I tend to agree. And it was the final stage, if one is not in the front group with the way the placings were one was out and could not be of help to a teammate either.

I disagree with those calling the conditions horrible. I did not see a single snowflake of hailstone.

LOL. Terrible is Belgium in March with 20 mph crosswinds blowing rain and sleet at your early season self as you scream down some poorly maintained road at 30 mph, desperately trying to maintain contact with the wheel in front of you.

It's a spoiler because it tells the winner in the title-someone awaiting a later broadcast or rebroadcast or someone who may have recorded it with the intent of watching it later sees the winner listed in the title spoiling the surprise finish when viewed later. Many people don't drop their daytime social plans or skip work to watch a live broadcast when they can see the same broadcast on tape without disrupting their plans. Posting the results a mere 6 hours is going spoil a lot of peoples surprise-posting 1 day later will spoil many persons surpise.

Besides, there previously was started a Tour of Ireland thread that said nothing of the winner in the title-one wishing to view the race later without spoiling the surprise would know to avoid the thread. As such, starting a second thread with a title specifying the winner further accents the discourtesy.

Hence the lack of common courtesy to later Tour viewing forums members by posting the spoiler title is what iritated Irish Pat.

Seems to me if you are going to DVR something and then go on to the internet not expecting to see a spoiler doesn't seem to the thing to do. You could DVR Man U and Chelsea but short of holing yourself up in prison (even that probably wouldn't work) you are going to find out the result if you go on to the internet.

Sorry if you were offended...no offense was intended but then again this is the pro forum where I have learned petty name calling and irratation seems to be the name of the game.

Title changed with a warning. It is no longer a "spoiler". Can we get back on the subject of the race now? Thanks.........
