For what race?

Let's say the TDF.

Liquigas: Basso, Kreuzinger, Pelizotti, Nibali

One of the most talent-deep teams out there.

And criminally under-rated. Hardly anyone talks about them. At least here.

What about BMC (they have Hincapie, now Cadel...)? Some good names.

USAZorro 11-02-09 07:27 AM

I think you are mistaken about Garmin. Vande Velde is a proven GC man coming off a season where his Tour prep was messed up by a bad injury and still finished 8th while Wiggens just had hi frst GC success.

Thing with Garmin is that they run the same system as Saxo: A captain (VdV) and a top contender (Wiggins), seperated. But you're right. Without that injury, VdV might have placed higher.

will be watching team sky this upcoming season. they don't seem to have
a dedicated gc guy-simon gerrans maybe??-but they have two of my
favorite young riders-boasson hagen & lovkvist. both strike me as more
classics-oriented and not above contesting the occasional rolling or
medium mountain stage in the gt's. without a clear cut gt leader,
perhaps the team will groom one or both for the 3 week races...
btw...what's the status with wiggins? is he with garmin for one more year?

both kreuziger & nibali will and should be feared in the gt's for the
coming years. a slight improvement on their tt abilities would increase
their podium chances however. absolutely love pellizotti's aggressiveness.
gotta believe his attacking style would be even more successful if any
kind of race radio/earpiece ban ever comes into play...

Boassen Hagen is awesome.

I hope to see more good things from Nicholas Roche, Tony Martin, Pellizotti, Feillu, Kreuziger, Gerdemann, etc. Lot of good talent out there. Columbia's depth is amazing. They haven't had a true gc man for the stage races yet but they've got the talent there. Michael Rogers is just not having any luck.

It's because Armstrong or "Big Georgie" don't ride for them.

No. We hear a lot about Saxo and Columbia too, for starters.

The 'problem' is that Liquigas is very consistent in classics and grand tours, but never quite reach the peak (apart from Pelizzoti).

+1 Like another person said "criminally under-rated"

I love Liquigas. They're so old school, one of the teams that really is ALL Italian. And they all climb like mountain goats.
