Race Jerseys and Bike for leaders?

How do the leaders like the 1st place overall (yellow jersey) or king of the mountain(polka dot) get an outfit and (sometimes) a matching bike so fast? Who makes it so fast? Or is it pre-made like do they guestimate who will be first?

The jerseys are pre-made I think. They don't have to be individualised, a couple different sizes for each team and jersey is enough. And matching bikes is usually just the mechanics having some fun I guess.

Saw a vid once of a printing machine where the jersey is slotted in and the logos and stuff just ironed on. Took 5 seconds each.

That's how they make the ones for the podium, etc. The real ones that the riders wear are custom made. Teams that expect to be in the lead may have them premade, the others probably have to scramble to get them out to the teams as needed.

Velonews did a piece on Cavendish's fighter pilot bike during the Tour. I know Sastre's yellow S3 was pre-painted before the tour... Cancellara was a shoe-in for the opening Time Trial, but look at how fast these mechanics do wheel changes (Silence Lotto not included). Throwing some decals on is barely 20 minutes of work.

As for the podium jerseys, those are sort of one size fits all/premade. Notice they zip in the back so they can be awarded more easily, and Cavendish looked like a little kid when he was wearing Green, so they're definitely not fitted based on the rider.

The tour (not sure if its organizers or individual teams) have sublimation printers for the jerseys so they can print and add the necessary graphics this way (or in the case of Astana fade out sponsors!).

Velo News did a piece on this during the TdF based on a mailbag question.

As far as the bikes go, I think that most of the special ones (except for LA's different paint job each day) are decals put on by the team mechanics.
