In all fairness, he probably covers it while he's riding to keep from pacing himself to a particular number. If you think you can make X watts, even if you're going all out, you'll see X and be happy with it. By having it covered, you won't ease up that little bit if you go over.

Maybe it's in protest to Contador not sharing his VO2max.....or maybe he doesn't want to spark debate over his watt ouput.
