So, Saxo drops their sponsorship at the beginning of the year - but bag AC and sign on?
Riis had said he would have a new sponsor announced after the tour - more a reupping than new.

Much more detail here https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cont...h-riis-in-2011 and here https://velonews.competitor.com/2010/...ontador_132572

IIRC Saxo signed on for another year, I'm guessing most likely *because* Riis landed Contador. Seems like sponsors come and go pretty quickly these days, so having a DS who can hustle and land a big sponsor is key.

welcome to a world run by people who know people and money old friend. Except for Lance of course, he is just shear guts and hard work... of course.
'Nyway, what a very strange move.
Saxo has no team to help Contador to speak of right now... very strange.

Uh, yeah, been living in that world for a long time now. It's not 1950 and we aren't dealing with national and regional teams. Even then politics and networking and money were involved.

Contador will pull several trusted allies to Saxo, Riis will probably grab a few other people; he's already making noise about wanting to hire Rasmussen and get Contador to win all 3 Grand Tours. It's not like Saxo currently has a deep roster of climbers anyway.

People were saying the same thing last year when Contador opted to stay with Astana.

Spartacus is contracted to Saxo-Sungaurd for another year, contadr is bringing some of his favorites over, and he will be riding for a team without money issues and a good DS. I dont know why any one would think its a bad move

Lance has an exclusive deal with trek, hand picked each rider he wanted on Radioshack(as well as discovery, and half the people he brought to Astana), haveing johan move with him no matter where he goes, having races the he participates in being more widely reported. That sure sounds like a person with money and old friends, much more than saxo making the buisness decision to sponsor a team that will get a lot of press.
