Transfers

This one was predictable several months ago.

Cav is going to eat his lunch when they go head-head.

When came to put up or shut up time he had full team support at the Giro and didn't do jack. Cav pulled off 5 TdF wins including a couple without lead out man extraordinaire Renshaw. We now see who is still the best sprinter in the world and who is on a new team. This was not a good year for Greipel by any stretch.

Will more competition make the sprints closer. Figuring that Greipel is comparable to the other top sprinters but not the Cav, will more people challenging Cav lead to less wins for him, because he has too many people to watch and too many trains getting organized on the front, or does it not matter because if you are better then the competition your just better?

more chaos may cost him a little, but if he is still chearly the fastest he should still win a buch of races.

I'm looking forward to this one. Who will bring the train and who will be opportunists, is Greipel anywhere near as fast as Cav, is a healthy Farrar in the same league - I'm looking forward to 2011 already.

With Renshaw extending with HTC, Cav will continue his dominance. Farrar looked like he might have been closing the gap, but Cav proved during the TdF that he's clearly the man to beat. Griepel will do well in races that don't include Farrar and Cav.

That's pathetic. Wonder what went on during these "negotiations".

Nonetheless, it's nice to have a forum whipping boy.

Howzit is the Ninja of trolls. Most trolls just mouth of endlessly with no clue whatsoever. Howzit has information, though somehow it doesnt quite translate into knowledge. So he uses that information poorly and endlessly.

A. No negotiation involved at all. Not all the facts were properly considered, and moderator reviews caught this. I hope you're not questioning the decisions of the moderation team.
B. We have no "forum whipping boys".
C. He's not the only person who posts here who has earned infractions.

Maybe it's just me but this sounds a lot like "how dare you question our authority".

This is a privately owned forum. More specifically, it's a business. The owner of BF makes money off banner ads, and the more hits this forum gets, the more advertisers are willing to pay for their banners.

As moderators, you guys can do whatever you want and are only bound by your own code of ethics. Use some discretion. Your role is to keep the junk out of here in order to maintain the highest number of users possible.

The vast majority of cyclists who post in these forums are adults. We can deal with curse words and a few heated discussions with insults thrown here and there. On the other hand, compulsive trolls like Howzit are able to squeak by the rules by keeping his (vast number of) insults just mild enough not to get perma-banned.

Quite a few guys, including myself, can deal with his BS. To us, he IS a whipping boy. Many other people can't stand him and may migrate to other forums.

Like I said, use some discretion.

yeah. I guess it could come off a bit like that. Wasn't really my intent to convey an ominous tone there.

The owners of the site do have a financial interest in it, and they have also mandated a number of rules. The volunteer moderation staff do their best to apply them consistently, and with a measure of common sense and context. The reason we have the word filter, and don't tolerate insulting members is because they are among the mandated rules, and that in part is based on their understanding that a hostile environment is a major factor in people being driven away from a site. Civility is clearly what the site owners prefer, and past experience with speculation about why members have received punishment is a situation that quite often leads to sparks flying. Since I do happen to know what transpired here (though I'm not at liberty to elaborate), I was hoping to prevent a mess from occurring (which I would have gotten to clean up after) so I shared what I could without breaching trust.

I would encourage people, if they do think someone has clearly gone to far, to please use the tools to report it. Don't view yourself as a snitch. Chances are someone else will eventually catch it, so you're really just accelerating the process. Unless the violation is blatant, a sincere effort to handle the situation with tact is made.

That said, once decisions are made, if you have some problem with it, we'd much prefer you civilly send us a PM, than we would see griping about it in the open forums. That, and sharing PMs without permission aren't tolerated well for reasons that I hope would be obvious.
