Hip injury or he needs to find time to burn down his secret hyperbaric chamber of horrors before the feds get it!

Bummer... would have been good press for MTB.

Gettin' old

Do a lot of older pros / ex-pros do Leadville? I always think of MTB as a young man's game.

Lance has done it a couple of times as did Floyd. David Wiens is not a young man and other then with Lance dominates the race with 7 of the last 8 years.

True in XC where riders peak in the late 20s, just like road racing.

Leadville's not a typical MTB race. 8+ hours on the bike changes things.

A lot of top downhillers and 4X riders are getting older and still in the game. Steve Peat is 36 and Brian Lopes is 38.

Lance has been on the border about doing it since the TDF. I wouldn't necessarily say he bailed.

Maybe the first, definitely the 2nd thing. That and with a flat rear tire he beat the record by 15 mins and Wiens by 25 mins last year. Unless he thought there was some new competition he's not going to be motivated for it.

I think he knows something is up with the Federal investigation. He's about to feel some big time pressure. He's got his mind on that and not on a bike race.

IMO the injuries - coupled with the insurmountable time lost that they created - resulted in a different LA who at the moment is not focused on racing. In some of the later stages of this year's TDF, he was just crusing along, smiling at well wishers. That's not the same super serious guy who rotinely buried the competition in the hills and still managed a 3d place at an advanced age.

Leipheimer is doing it, he was going to be Lance's "big challenge" this year, but now it'll be Weins and Leipheimer I guess

That would explain the mountain bike he posted on his twitter feed this morning. Is Leipheimer bringing a bunch of pacers with him this year?

I wonder when Bruyneel is coming back to America. Highly doubt it is going to be anytime soon. He is probably about to feel the pressure. Levi is going into hiding now too.

I wonder if Lance is bummed now that Levi has smashed his record. Getting older and not doing serious racing anymore he may never be fit enough to better his old record. But I think he will try again in the future when things settle down. Look at Wiens. He is like 45 years old.

I think that there is a good chance that Bruyneel will have to retire after RadioShack. I'm not sure if any team would want to have him and the bad publicity anymore. Perhaps in a minor less visible roll.

Levi Leipheimer wins the Leadville.

Shatters Hope's record.
