You might need an understanding wife for that. Although Thor is definitely my wife's favorite rider. She saw him coming on the outside and started cheering and yelling, and she would not really define herself as a fan.

so then we could just say that Thor raced a smarter race.

Also, don't forget he had a grand total of two teammates. The big name teams had nine riders each.

As for the name, my wife is down. I don't think she'd go for the middle name of Hushovd though...

They are very different racers that needed to have very different strategies. I am not convinced Cadel thought he had much of a chance of winning but he silenced a lot of critics last year by winning and this year he put in lots of heart and lots of effort and I applaud him for that. He showed respect for being the defending champion and worked really hard hoping to catch all breaks and maybe ride away with it. Thor had to sit there and lets not forget that making it into that group was not easy. Maybe 30 guys coming to the line together and he was the fastest of those left. That is a great tactical race for his abilities, Cadel put in a pretty good tactical race for his ability as well, but that was going to be a very hard race for him to win, people knew he wanted to win and had seen him do it last year, you cannot expect to pull off the same surprise win 2 years in a row.

It's not a group ride. There are no prizes for who does the most work.

The whole idea is to do as little work as possible, particularly if you are a sprinter.

That's the way of bike racing. The sprinters are never going to push the pace or lead up the hills until the last few kilometers. The guys who can't win a stage because of lack of sprint speed or climbing ability will always be the helpers during the race. Cadel's only chance of winning was to gain enough lead on the climbs to beat the sprinters to the finish. But the hills though steep, were short. This favors bigger strongers guys who can climb well but not as efficiently as pure climbers. The course was perfect for Thor as he is one of the best climbers out of the guys who are really fast in the sprint.

Maybe cyclist use BF as bulletin board material, because I am pretty sure there were lots of things said about Cadel before he won the WC last year. Apparently being written off by the group of experts here is what you need to go onto great success. So apparently PCAD has a chance at greatness.

Whoah, save it for the Road Forum. We can't allow PCAD's influence to seep into the Pro forum!
