The UCI does it again

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-...-of-california

What is it with the UCI always changing things at the last minute? I'm not sure I'm against the idea of inviting the region's best to the Tour of California (though maybe it makes sense to split "Americas" into North and South), but give these guys some time to adjust.

Amgen Tour of California organizer AEG was prepared to announce its list of invited teams in the coming week, and president Andrew Messick told Cyclingnews that he has not yet been informed by the UCI or USA Cycling of any new rule.

"The UCI has today published a fictitious ranking for the UCI Continental Teams"

This is from the UCI website.

One definition of 'fictitious' is "accepted or assumed for the sake of convention" but still it's an unfortunate choice of word.

Being half Colombian, I'm not complaining As a watched of the Tour of California in English, I'm also looking forward to listening to them trip all over these names. Announcers need to earn their keep.

The problem is that North America does not have enough bike races to be it's own division. The majority of the races are in South America. So until that changes I don't think the UCI is going to be sympathetic towards North American pro cycling. Of course racing in two hemisphere's is advantages to having a long racing season. But there would probably need to be a lot more 2-3 day UCI events in America and Canada for them to have things change.

Doesn't look like that UCI ruling changed the teams at all. Here's the list: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/team...-of-california

You wouldn't think they would have had time to talk to the Columbians yet and let them make a decision. I wonder how open to change the lineup still is.

That was weird.

And so is this...http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/74...suspended.aspx

Lots I don't understand about the UCI but after Saxo loses most of it's team and now the points from Contador, if the ban is imposed, jeez what a blow. I hope the UCI doesn't do this as cycling doesn't need less elite teams, it needs more. And sponsors are hard to come by. Fingers crossed.
