If a large group misses the time cut will they all be eliminated? I believe they're sometimes pardoned. I guess it depends on how much they miss the time cut by and how many is in the gruppetto. Does who is in the group factor into it?

Dramatic finish - I felt good for De Clerq and bad for Scarponi at the same time...

There is a rule that they won't eliminate more then a certain percent of the field on stage. There is also a formula for average speed and elimination time. As far as do the people in the group matter. I would say yes, is it supposed to, no, but the race commissaries know its a business and some people are big pulls. They will also occasionally look at the situation. If you have a bad crash at the beginning of a stage and fight to catch back on the whole day and end up missing the cut off (just barely) sometimes they will let you continue.

Thanks. I heard some of the sprinters were worried because the cut off was going to (expected to?) be only 18min on this stage, I guess because of the short stage length. Two riders went over 18min but inside of 19min so I guess they'll be allowed to continue.

Check out who's in 9th place, only 30 seconds back. I ask you rhetorically...barring accidents, is there any doubt who is going to win this shinding?

Nibali has a chance, especially if Liquigas can make Alberto crack on one of the climbs and put a few minutes into him. Those monster mountain stages, one after the other after the other, are going to be as much about recovery as anything else.

Depends on Contador's team, too. Are they really much weaker than his TdF team last year?

AC is quite rightly favourite ON PAPER but races are won ON THE ROAD. 7 stages but one was a TTT, stage 4 was neutralised, stage 2 was a sprinters stage as will be todays stage 8.
Stage 9 on Sunday will be interesting.
What's the betting on a volcanic eruption out of the peleton leaving the rest struggling in the magma?

I'm willing to put my cyber money where my mouth is. And I'll take on all comers. Let me count up my imaginary Euros here...okay, I'll bet 1 million Euros that Contador will take the GC honours. Any takers?

Okay if we're talking 'imaginary' €s here rather 'real' €s then you're on.

Let's make things interesting. In addition to 1 million imaginary Euros, if Contador doesn't win I'll throw in this year's spring harvest of maple syrup, three Mounties, two hockey players, Niagara Falls...and Celine Dion. Eh?
