2012 Olympics Cycling events

Haven't seen any thread on this topic and search results yielded nada , so here goes:

I'm planning on going to England next summer for the 2012 Olympics. I've applied for velodrome/indoor events and am planning to watch the road races from the free sections of the route. Will try and pick up tickets for the mountain biking events when I'm there and if I have time (have a lot of family in UK so have to visit them and have a pint).

Big question is, are there decent places on the road cycling route to view the race? I will be bringing my DSLR to get some action photos.

Also, would appreciate if any London/UK BF'er knows if any cycling shops or groups will have organized cycling events on the route. I'll be bringing my bibs, jerseys, shoes, helmet, etc.

Cheers!

Can't help with any of your questions, but have to say that sounds like a great trip, and I'm jealous. I've wanted to go to the UK (my ancestral home) since I was a kid, but haven't yet made it there. To go during the Olympics would be a dream come true.

A cyclist in UK has already done the Road Race route: http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/vi...ondon/28251976

28 & 29 July 2012: Road Race route with scenic info: http://www.london2012.com/documents/...race-route.pdf

Wed 1 Aug 2012: Time Trial route with scenic info: http://www.gosurrey.info/surrey2012/...ing-time-trial

Now, just to find some organized rides and rent a bike.
