    Spanish National Time Trial

VALLAD D'UIXO, Spain (AP) -- Alberto Contador was third in the Spanish national time trials on Friday, part of the three-time Tour de France champion's preparations for next month's race.

Luis Leon Sanchez won his third national title by taking the 27.5-mile sprint in 27 minutes, 12 seconds. Jonathan Castresana was second with Contador 24 seconds back in third.

Saw an article in the paper this morning and went to Universal Sports to confirm it but it shows a 27 mile ride in 27 minutes. Isn't that almost 60 miles an hour?

Luis León Sánchez Gil, in his first year with Rabobank, took his first win of the season when he blasted along the Spanish 44.5-kilometer time trial course in 56'43. Sánchez cleanly beat Euskaltel-Euskadi's Jonathan Castroviejo into second place, by one minute. Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank) was third, 1'12 behind the winner.

Dammit. I was really hoping there was a 27 mile long mountain descent somewhere in Spain that I hadn't heard about.
