We know what he MEANT, but his words are a double negative.

In the VeloNews article, Contador said this: “My tolerance against doping has always been zero."

The correct wording should be 'for doping' not "against doping".

Is this his way of saying the truth but not being truthful?

I'd like to believe he's clean, but history has taught me to be a skeptic and to look for clues.

Damn foreigners...

He should just come out and say it: "I have been tested hundreds of times and never failed a test."

Funny that most of the other media outlets have the quote correct:

"My position has always been zero tolerance for doping."
"I'm 100% against doping, but everybody can believe what they want to."

Maybe the OP's theory applies to the writers at velonews?

“My tolerance against doping has always been zero." <--- would not surprise me that he said that in english tho. Even in spanish I would believe he said something like that. BTW he will sweep with everybody.

Of course it's a conspiracy theory, having nothing to do with a Spaniard speaking English, or an American journalist Babelfish-ing stuff because he's lazy.

Actually in Spanish the double negative isn't the same animal it is in English. In Spanish it is much more common and means the same as a single negative.

There's a difference between being skeptical and being a dumbass. Something has clearly been lost in translation.

From Cyclingnews: "My tolerance against doping is 100 percent but everyone can believe what they want."

From The Boston Globe: "I always said very clearly that I am always against doping, zero tolerance, but you can think what you like.’’

Says more about the journalists than it does about Alberto.

Actually not quite. In Spanish it is an added emphasis (and as you point out correct usage).

Actually in Spanish it's quite awkward NOT to use multiple negatives.

"No he inyectado nada"
