Green and Spots in the Early Stages
Frequently it happens that the GC leader also leads in the points and/or mountains.
When this happens the second place rider in the classification gets to wear that jersey the following day:
1. Do they actually award (podium girls and handshakes) the green/spots jersey to the GC leader? Or do they award it to the guy who's going to wear it? or both?
2. Does the GC leader get the daily money and prizes associated with the green/spots jersey or do they go to the guy who's going to wear it?
3. What are the daily cash and other prizes associated with these jerseys? I remember one year Greg Lemond said he got a TV just for being in the combination jersey (sponsored by Toshiba?) one stage, and got other prizes every day he wore it.

The podium award goes to the rider who is actually leading the competition, irrespective of other competitons he is leading. Same for the prize money. (Which likely is split within the team).
Not sure what the $ amounts and associated prizes are as that changes each year.

That's kind of what I figured. Then they just deliver a green jersey with the proper sponsor logos to the team bus of the second place guy with no fanfare? Kind of bogus.

I think they should just make green jerseys with red polka dots, yellow jerseys with green polka dots, etc. Lord knows this friggin' thing is expensive enough already.

I'm positive about who they zip the jersey on at the awards. I think the top 3 may actually be on the podium, but I'm not sure about that. If so it would be rare for the jersey wearer on a stage to not have been on the poduim the day before. (In todays Tour I think that means it could only happen with teh best young rider and it would require the top 3 in that to be in the other 3 jerseys).

Tour of California has a three-racer podium for every stage and it catches some of the people off guard (Oscar Freire famously didn't show up once for second place on a stage win and Rabo sent a stand-in).

I didn't think they have three racers on the podium for any of the awards including stage winner until the GC podium in Paris.
